Omonia’s late conquest in Poland sees them progress!

Upon arriving in Poland, Omonia were not the favourites at all. Facing Legia, Poland’s biggest football team the Cypriot side went into the match as underdogs.

Omonia dominated both possession and shots. 7 shots on target, and deadly set pieces were the key to their game. Legia pushed within the first 10 minutes, but a red card from a bad tackle by Lewczuk saw them crumble.

After a goalless game in regular time, extra time awaited both the sides.

A penalty kick was awarded to Omonia in which Gomez stepped up and converted, giving the Cypriot side the lead. A beautiful cross by Asante to Thiago, finished by a beautiful near post header gave Omonia the edge and the victory in the match. This is also Thiago’s second goal in two consecutive qualifying matches.

Legia’s three game winning streak has been snapped.

A late conquest gives Omonia further hopes into playing in Europe’s most prestigious club tournament.
