Olympiakos v Panathinaikos Match Review

The Derby of Eternal Enemies did not disappoint this time round, with a goal fest and a brilliant amount of shots from both sides.

First half possession remained even, at 50% a piece, however that did not stop Guilherme from striking within the first five minutes. A beautiful shot from just inside the box guided past Dioudis in goal to open the scoring to the home side at 1-0.

Panathinaikos’ first real chance comes on the 12th minute, when a free kick is blocked by defenders from a Konstantinos Fortounis hand ball. All would come to nothing, as brilliant team work in the box leads to a well timed chip by Elabdellaoui to El Arabi, who volleys it, near post, top right corner! Out of reach for the goalkeeper.

Panathinaikos continued to threat Olympiakos, a red card was given to Ilias Chatzitheodoridis, but was overturned by the referee, boosting the sides’ confidence being 2-0 down within the space of thirty minutes.

Lovera shows brilliant trickery, as he unleashes a shot into the top right corner, subsequently saved by Dioudis.

Half Time: 2-0.

Fortounis’ easy shot right in front of goal was weak, and saved by Dioudis. A chance which should have been capitalised by red and white.

On the 62nd minute an important substitution is made for Olympiakos, as Cafu comes on replacing goalscorer Guilherme.

Panathinaikos had a much better second half, with 5 shots and holding Olympiakos to one shot within the half.

Within the fringes of the game, Argyris Kampetsis hits a mammoth header just wide of the top left corner of the net.

The substitution for Cafu is crucial, and so to was their only shot of the half. On the 91st minute, Cafu received a pass, with acres of space and time to take a shot. Cafu buries it into the bottom left corner from about 20 yards to put the game to bed.

Olympiakos now sit 19 points clear, and Panathinaikos are 10 points off the top 3.
